Client: Mike Francis
Skill: Chief Meteorologist

Since the age of 4, Mike Francis has been captivated by the weather. That’s when he saw his first thunderstorm. At 13, he saw his first tornado. The passion became a career that brought Mike Francis to 11Alive as Chief Meteorologist in July 2011.

Previously, Mike was Chief Meteorologist at KARK in Little Rock, AR where he helped the community stay safe in the face of hundreds of tornadoes over 10 years. Mike won the AP Award for Best Weathercast and won the hearts of thousands in the Little Rock community. Prior to Little Rock, Mike worked at KSWO in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Mike graduated at the top of his class at the nations’ most respected school for Meteorology, the University of Oklahoma. He earned his stripes chasing tornados with “Project Vortex” at the National Severe Storms Laboratory researching Severe Weather Radar Meteorology.

Saving lives is nothing new to Mike. In 1989, he joined the Army, eventually serving in the elite 82nd airborne division. He fought in combat in both Panama (Operation Just Cause) and Iraq (Operation Desert Storm).

Mike and his wife Deanna have 3 children and live in Alpharetta. Mike and his family spend time volunteering for Autism Speaks.
