As the newest member of the First Warn Storm team, Sarah Fortner jumped on board March 2016.
It’s been a journey through the seasons for Sarah. Growing up in Florida—summers were spent dodging afternoon thunderstorms and watching for hurricanes. Weather has been part of her daily life since her family was in the agriculture business. She spent Spring growing potatoes in the state’s “Potato Capital,” Hastings, Fla.
She received her degree from Florida State University in Meteorology, along with minors in Communication, Mathematics, and Physics. She was active in Younglife, Campus Crusade for Christ, Sail Club and the Phi Mu Sorority.
Post-college her first TV job was in Zanesville, Ohio. Quite the culture shock during her first Midwest winter—forecasting snow bands off the lakes was easier said than done. In 2012, Sarah moved to tornado alley in Arkansas. Time in Little Rock consisted of tracking tornadoes and a handful of record snow & ice storms. This definitely fine-tuned her forecasting skills before coming to the Queen city.
Not only a schooled weather nerd, but she’s a certified Meteorologist. In 2015, Sarah earned her CBM Seal from the American Meteorological Society. She’s also a member of the National Weather Association; where she’ll attend conferences to learn the latest and greatest in weather forecasting.
Sarah is still searching for a church to call home and loves to be involved in the community outside the workplace. Sarah gets outside as much as she can. In Arkansas, she learned to duck hunt and trout fish!
