Meteorologist, Laura Velasquez, joined the KDVR/KWGN Pinpoint Weather Team in July of 2014.
A native of West Michigan, she comes to us from WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, Mich. where she has spent the last seven years forecasting everything from blizzards to severe thunderstorms and floods.
Laura is a graduate of Central Michigan University where she majored in meteorology and minored in math and GIS (geographic information sciences) and is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree. She has also obtained the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation from the American Meteorological Society along with the Television Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association. She is a member of both organizations.
Back in Michigan Laura was recognized by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters earning the designation of “Best Weathercast.”
Her passion for weather is unmistakable. In fact, she knew she wanted to be a meteorologist when she was 5! Always up for a challenge, Laura is so excited to be forecasting along the Front Range where the weather is always difficult to predict.
Outside of work Laura is an avid runner and endurance athlete. She has completed four marathons and will run her fifth in Chicago this October. The Cherry Creek Trail, Wash Park, and the trails at Red Rocks have already become favorites of hers. She is also looking forward to climbing a few 14-ers in the not-so-distant future and is ready to learn how to ski “the right way” on the slopes of the Rockies.
Laura welcomes suggestions on fun things to do and places to go in Colorado. Laura and her dog “Jet”, live in Denver.
